Dorer Project

Last year, the Wapashaw Ikes received a grant from the Minnesota IWLA Division to research and create an inventory of material related to Richard Dorer. Yes, the guy the forests around us are named for, and he was also an Ike. This was completed earlier this year. This grant is part of a multi-step process to get out the word on the great things Richard Dorer espoused and accomplished, especially in the Southeast portion of Minnesota. Future outputs, will include a short book on his life and well as educational materials that schools and libraries can use. We are in search of grant funding to complete these next items. We feel Richard Dorer’s message of conservation is as important today as it was back in his day – if not more so.

Big Jo Presenter Series

The Wapashaw Ikes helped sponsor and participated with Bird City in the Big Jo Presenter Series on August 30th. presenting an "Afternoon of Collectors and Watchers of Creepy, Crawling Insects, Spiders and Snakes......and Birds!!" on grounds of the National Eagle Center. Sara Holger of Project Get Outdoors, and a Wapashaw Ike, presented on Rattlesnakes.

Book Club

Our chapter is kicking off a Non-Fiction Book Club starting October 14th at 7 pm. It will be done via a web meeting and is open to all. The books chosen will be based on issues of concern to the Izaak Walton League with a focus on our northern midwest region. We would meet Jan, Apr, July, and Oct (every three months, or four times a year). It will be a virtual meeting for approximately 50 minutes in the evening at 7pm on a Wednesday.
